Winners of the 2022 and 2021 CMC Prairie Region, Emerging Composer Competition

The Canadian Music Centre, Prairie Region (CMCPR) is pleased to announce that Thomas Joiner (Calgary) is the winner of the 2022 Emerging Composer Competition (ECC) for his piece, Dawn, and Isaac Zee (University of Manitoba) is the winner of the 2021 ECC for his piece, On the Day of Judgement.

2022 Canadian Music Centre Prairie Region Emerging Composer Competition – Call for Scores

Emerging Composers with a connection to Canada’s Prairie Region are invited to submit their orchestral works to the 19th edition of the CMC Prairie Region Emerging Composer Competition for Orchestra with a cash prize of $1,000 and performance by the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra (WSO) during the 2022 edition of the Winnipeg New Music Festival (WNMF).

Classical Album of the Week: Pianist Maria Thompson Corley’s Treasure Trove by Black Composers

A collection of classical music written by African-American women over the last century is a jewel—an example of the depth and range of compositions that lie waiting to be discovered.
